Quick answers
Is it really free?
Yes. Fully free to play — every player gets the full game, forever. No pay-to-win, no loot boxes, no premium currency. Development and server costs are supported by optional Patreon memberships whose perks are purely cosmetic.
Do I need to install anything?
No. Mapsworn runs in any modern browser — iOS Safari, Android Chrome, desktop Firefox/Edge. Bookmark the URL and you're set. You can also "Add to Home Screen" from your browser for an app-like icon.
Where do I spawn in the world?
Wherever your GPS says you are. If GPS is unavailable, the game starts you in a demo location (San Francisco). You can teleport with a flag once you plant one.
Do I have to walk around to play?
No — tap anywhere within your movement circle (~600m radius) to move there. Walking is optional but rewards exploration. You can play sitting on the couch.
Can I play with friends?
Yes — Mapsworn is multiplayer. You'll see other players' heroes on the map in real-time, chat, trade, and join kingdoms. Summon a friend directly to your location, form a hunting party of up to four for bonus XP, and take on legendary raid bosses together. New players can even be paired with a veteran tutor.
How does combat work?
Tap a monster to engage. Combat is auto-attack on a ~1.5-second tick. You and the monster trade hits until one dies or you walk away. Pets fight beside you. Equip swords, shields, armor for stat bonuses.
What if I lose my login?
Your account is keyed to your email — re-enter the same email anywhere and you're logged back in. Tokens are kept in your browser's local storage and sync to the server.
Is this an MMO clone of an older game?
Mapsworn is a spiritual successor to a beloved 2008 mobile location-based MMO. Every line of code is original and the art is hand-drawn pixel art. The gameplay style and "tap-to-play on a real map" feel will be familiar to veterans of that genre, but Mapsworn is its own thing.
