Terms of Service

Mapsworn ("the Service") is a free browser-based MMO at mapsworn.com and play.mapsworn.com. These terms govern your use of it.

1. You can play, free, no payment

The Service is provided free of charge. No purchases, no subscriptions, no in-app payments. If we ever introduce optional cosmetics or supporter perks in the future, we'll update these terms first and email you.

2. Be civil

By using the Service you agree NOT to:

Harass, threaten, or impersonate other players
Use chat for spam, advertising, slurs, or sexual content involving minors
Pick a hero name that contains slurs, impersonates real people, or violates trademarks
Attempt to disrupt the service (DDoS, exploit attempts, vulnerability probing without prior contact)
Use automated tools, bots, or location spoofing to gain unfair gameplay advantage
Reverse-engineer the client to inject cheats

Violations may result in a temporary or permanent ban at our discretion. Egregious behavior may be reported to law enforcement.

3. GPS & physical safety

Be smart and aware of your surroundings. The Service is location-based and may encourage outdoor walking. We are not responsible for any of the following:

Traffic, trip, fall, or other physical injury while playing
Trespass on private property — we do not direct you to enter any property you do not have permission to be on
Confrontations with other people while playing in public places
Wildlife encounters, weather, or any other natural hazard
Theft, mugging, or other crime committed by third parties

Use common sense. Do not play while driving. Do not enter private property. Pay attention to traffic.

4. Your account & data

See our Privacy Policy for the full breakdown. Short version:

You can sign up with an email, no password.
You can delete your account any time from in-game Settings.
Your hero name appears on the public leaderboard at /leaders unless you delete your account.

5. Service availability

The Service is provided "as is" without warranty. It runs on a single self-hosted server and may go down for maintenance or unforeseen issues. We try our best to keep it up but make no uptime guarantees. Your save data is backed up hourly with 7-day retention.

6. Content you create

Hero names, city names, kingdom names, and chat messages you create are visible to other players. By creating this content you grant Mapsworn a non-exclusive license to display it in-game. We may remove content that violates section 2.

7. Intellectual property

All game code, art, and content is original work owned by Mapsworn. The pixel-art aesthetic, mechanics, and "real-world map MMO" genre are inspired by but not derived from any other game. Mapsworn is not affiliated with any other game studio or trademark.

8. Limitation of liability

To the extent permitted by law, Mapsworn and its operator are not liable for any indirect, incidental, special, or consequential damages arising from your use of the Service. Your sole remedy is to stop using the Service.

9. Changes to these terms

We may update these terms occasionally. Material changes will be emailed to account holders. The "Last updated" date at the top of this page reflects the current version.
